NYD (tonight) is going to be to the real busy one – I expect nearly double the crowd to turn up.. it’s how it goes – not really sure why or how but Sydney siders have an insatiable appetite for partying. God bless their lost souls…

Someone asked me what big things we have planned – and we do have big things planned – we just haven’t announced them – but I guess where people don’t really get us is how throw things together – the method is simple – we have a massice crew of over 70 deejays and so many promoters, bookers, and event staff – over 100 people – and I just stand out side the club on a busy night and talk to them as they float by. The intelligence of such a big crew of people and the latent potential is amazing.. it’s all a matter of talking to people and finding out what and how they can contribute. That’s how we shake action – but looking within our team…

So, what big things do we have planned for 2012? Not sure yet – just got to talk to the team.. and see what comes out of it.. no doubt something will – but one thing for certain is; the beat goes on and so do we. Tal over and out.

We launched a libertine night called Culture Club – it’s been a mad party – the face book link for www.facebook.com/cultureclub69 – it is check it out… (you’ll have to copy and past the link – sorry I’m a bit of a retard with this stuff)..

Also we launched Gutter Glam Kings Cross’s newest Day Club and it’s the only real day club in a kings cross nightclub – the rest are just in pubs masquerading as clubs… –

Next week we Launch Fuck Yeah Fridays… another crazy night…

All the while we ran a series of corporate events, our usual gigs and as well as those presented and promoted by our associate promoters – heaps and heaps of events.. it’s so good to be back to throwing gigs and parties…

The only real problem we’re facing at the moment is allocating costs to the right company or trading trust and ensuring the payments are made by the right entity to show an accurate expense dispersement. This is mainly an accouting thing – but we’ve gone from one company to three companies, 2 trusts and one partnership – the structures are a bit complex and they’ve come about faster than our accounts infrastructure has evolved to control them…

anyway, apart from the accounts solution that’s needed – we’re happily throwing an endless and diverse run of gigs and parties… (disco infinity and beyond). Music People grows – the last core team meeting had 12 divisional and departmental team leaders at it.. Vamp Music grows, The new club is starting to stablise and get a growing presence in the minds of the club going community – and we’re starting to get regulars turning up and more and more of them… you can’t shake so much action without disturbing the status quo – but that’s just how it goes when you’re doing things.. not too worried about that – others are watching (local clubs, pubs and small touring companies) and not liking our happening – but they should do what we do – not look at anyone else – not measure yourself by someone elses yardstick and just get on with the gig of putting on gigs…

regardless, the show goes on and so does the beat… and you can’t beat the music (people)… tal over and out..

we’ve got three new events – Misfits, Culture Club and Gutter Glam – all three are really cool parties with different angles yet they’re all real alternatives to the mindless mainstream stuff that goes on elsewhere – It’s fuunny that sometimes we’ll see what other other places are doing and think ‘that’s so obvoius and cliche” Left to our devices without trying to, we somehow find that alternative thing with authenticity and we make it work… that’s the way to genuinely keep that beat going. this was a party to be reckoned with… loved it… Halloween is always a massive party – and this year they just came to Candys like it was a gathering at Mecca – I came as Satan – or did Satan come as me….but what a good Satan I make…

and this week we launch Button Down Disco – we’re setting up these dimensional screens for Videos (the screens are made by us using semi-transparent material and special projections to get dimensional visual affects – it’s really friggin trippy – plus we’re doing bands front and back bar at Candys (and when we set up the live stage at Whaat club we’ll put on live bands there – so they’ll be an amazing band smorgasboard… and of course back to back deejays over Candys main stage, back bar and Whaat club main room – so Button Down Disco will be a visually tripped out party – with heaps of bands and deejays and the usual mayhem – plus some drink specials… Friday nights have always been strong at Candys because we work hard to make them happen…

And we’re about to up the ante’ – it’s party time at Candys and Whaat Club with the music people keeping that beat going… Tal over and out..

There’s a storage area under Candys Stage (the front part of the stage opens up like the entry into a cellar… we call it the crypt where we dump Halloween decorations… so the boys have climbed down and come back up with 3 years worth of shit that’s managed to survive (for lack of a better word).

In the next couple of days we’ll be putting things up and going off and buying things… as we get closer we start getting more and more into it… and we somewhere along the line I get the night off and then it’s party time.. disgraceful behaviour is the order of the day and disgrace ourselves with great pride…..

Always, Halloween at Candys is an insane time – a place to party – we are get into the spirit of All Hallows Eve… and celebrate the dead because life is meaningless without death… come, party join us,  drink, dance, laugh, celebrate LIVE!

It feels fantastic to be waking up and going to work back to bookings, and promo and putting on events. It’s what we’re about. A friend of mine mentioned that they were at a realy underground wharehouse party and somewhere along the way a conversation about Candys came about. Inevitably I became a subject.. it’s small town fame I guess, people that don’t know you having opinions about you – nothing too bad from what I heard – but the whole noteriety thing profoundly disinterests me.

We throw gigs and parties – we put on events and bring people and music together in celebration. We do that because we believe parties are important. We don’t really want to get involved in the local politics we just want to do our gig – that’s it. It’s simple. We get it, we dig it and we like to throw the shindigs. People without groove inevitably gravitate to a happening and they try to get involved – but personally, I avoid them – they’re not here to do it because they get it – they’re hear because they see the who-ha and want to be part of the glory… it’s bullshit.

On Saturday night we finished Candys on the weekend and I grabbed a few deejays and some of our team members and Eli Smith (Kill Pop records LA), Jordan (Lucky Date Chicago) and Keith (Autoerotique FRA) and we continued partying in Whaat club… basically it was a small private gathering some of the best local deejays (Candys, VAMP and Girlthing/Snatch And Grab) and three internationals and an open bar – and a lot of good spirit . Now that’s what I’m talking about. No bad vibes no negativity from us – we’re just doing what we do.

So getting back to being promoters will mean our current run of events will go nuts again… but with the new club we need to double our party output. That’s a big call when the team is absorbed by the current run of gigs.

So, over the past few weeks we’ve been looking at how to have more events without draining our core team’s creativity. And we’ve got a friggin great idea to do it… we reapproaching and reinventing how parties are being put together. It’s got to do with how the teams are drawn in and organised.

Soon there’ll be some seriously radical new parties and mad shit going down. We’ll run these thru the new club and we’ll also be launching a new party at Candys that’ll up the ante to where it should be… we need to have more diversity so, new people are joing our team and our core team members are finding another way of doing things and they’re actually starting to direct others and teach others.

In two or three months (early 2012) we’ll be launching the new club. By that time we would have sorted our way through a lot of potential new party people and worked out who really can work with us and get results. Then we’ll focus and the real happening will start to take form. There’ll be internationals, there’ll be new releases, there’ll be some seriously different mindblowing events.. oh, no doubt success will (as it always does) bring challenges to us.. but we’re right back where we started from just with a bigger team and more experience and a new club and new events – we’ll stick to what we know… cause when the beat from within is real nothing can stop it from going on and on… Tal over and out.

Finally the last major work for the council compliances, fire compliances, and contractual compliances for the new nightclub are done. The financials are done and damned we’re lookin’ strong from every direction. Regardless, owning nightclubs isn’t just about stocking with alcohol opening the doors, putting on music then cleaning and restocking.. the amount of work that needs to be done for Police, Council and Government and then of course there’s the actual job of running the place plus the bookings and marketing, accounts, legals – (aaaargh!!!! drives one mad)… Hard hard yards.

But, we’ve finished up the bulk of that work (it’s now just the week by week work, process of settlements and accounts – it’s not that simple but the mountain of shit at the start is over) – the last big hurdle was financials and we ended up fantastic situation – viable, and with all offers approved and being in a pick and choose situation. It’s nice when the shoes on the other foot. It seems major banks really want our business.

Whaat Club – (what are we going to call it? We don’t know yet). we’re planning the redecorating of the club and the relaunch – (branding, website etc…) can’t wait…

It will be amazing when we finish. It’ll be the ultimate compliment to Candys – musically and decoratively. Though we’ll launch it as a club in it’s own right, they are in fact two chambers of the same buidling – the heart of clubland in the place where the heart should be – the middle of Bayswater Road Kings Cross. Sydney’s premier night entertainment precinct. In the future the places seperately and combined will be throwing amazing parties and they’ll be a places of celebration that people will remember for their whole lives.

I do know that I’m very lucky and I am very grateful to have this. And I don’t take it for granted. It’s understood that really we are the custodians of these places and they belong to Sydney’s music community and the patrons that support the clubs. I’m shallow and vain and self-obssessed (that’s how I got here) but this is so amazing it makes me step outside of my egocentric mind and realise – hey, these places belong to all, who in the right spirit, come to party.

And it’s not just a superficial party zone that we provide – it’s a place where people can transform themselves by meeting, dancing, drinking, celebrating and LIVING! These places bring people together and in doing so they affect the tree of life. How many people meet their partners here, how many people’s lives are tranformed by new friendships and even just by escaping their mundane jobs and dancing and celebrating. Believe me and make no mistake – Parties Are Important.

Both Candys and Whaat Club powered last weekend. Whaat club was amazingly strong on Friday night – we were very surprised. VAMP kicked arse at the Arthouse on the weekend. It continues to power. But when you throw parties you’ve got to be ready to shake and move, change the beat and keep with the times.. Big cred to Sasha – as a touring agent he’s cut it out and as a promoter he’s made it happen and now he’s bringing in some good signings to the label. He’ll soon be Managing Director of VAMP Music – he’s only 21 and he’s coming up a player in his own right – he’s got that Jewish showbiz thing to him…so always check for your wedding ring after shaking his hand (just kidding – maybe). But seriously, he’s very well respected and liked by the local Sydney clubbing community and bookers and promoters nationally.

This morning a lot of paper work is being archived and we are filing stacks and stacks of paperwork from all the administrative shit that’s been in the way of promoting.

We’re clearing the way to going back to doing what we do as well – gigs and parties.

There’s a stack load of internationals coming through, the new club will be launched soon, new releases on the label, VAMP is powering forward, Candys needs a bit of a booking & marketing revamp for Friday night too.. we can finally attend to her – the corporate gigs have been in full swing and that’s been nice – the studio is busy – it’ll be nice to get back to music work.

Also, the promoters working with us doing Carmens and Snatch&Grab and Girlthing are killing it. We’re looking at a boat cruise for the shire – and talking about a doing a combined event somewhere special – to put on a different event and continue the activity that keeps the clubbing community engaged and growing.

The one division we don’t have is a domestic management/agency. It’s funny, we’ve gone about it backwards to everyone – most music companies will start with the management/agency and put on some events in venues to get a revenue stream. We started as promoters then bought nighclubs, set up expensive offices, built stuidios, bought office space and started international touring… then began label releases and now are looking at the management/agency.

I guess we hit the hard stuff first and put that all in order – now we’re looking at the management / agency – I’ve never really understood how small roster agencies made it work.

anyway, now that we’ve finalised the heavy legal, financial and admin stuff and finally, the whole music people team is free to get back to it – we’ll be able to shake some action again and again – more good things to come as the team gets tighter, bigger and we keep rolling as we do.

It always comes down to gigs and parties and bringing people together through music – it’s an unbeatable combination that keeps going on and on. Tal over and out.

They recognised these social activities as socially criticial and economically critical to the community.

Why am I saying this? – well the weekend has past and after the Candys and Whaat club gigs – we kicked off Sunday with a boat cruise and later an afterparty.

So, Sunday arvo 1:00 pm I turned up to Star City Casino Wharf and saw over 400 party peeps waiting to board the boat. I stood there as each and every person boarded the boat and I knew nearly every single face. I recognised people from Candys and Vamp and our other events.

We have a real community. And though it’s small and specifically clubbers – it’s a community. From all over Sydney and Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast. From different areas and different socio-economic demogaphics, different back grounds – but there’s something about them all that binds them having something similiar and it’s the music and the club culture – their age and commonality.

5 hours later at 6:00 pm I watched them turn up to Whaat Club for the afterparty.  They came and they came and the party filled up and went off. It was really nice – I watched them come from the boat cruise to the club – and it had every feeling of being a community.

And Whaat Club – the old Sugareef, the old Le panic came to life – and it felt pretty damned good. To see a community be brought together by music and commonality – not a problem all day – and a great feeling. and seeing them resurrect a nightclub on an afternoon/early evening where the rest of the street was so quiet it was nearly a ghost town.

That’s what Sydney needs more of. Fostering and cultivating of this kind of thing. A few blogs ago on 05/09/2011 I wrote something about this in a blog titled: What is and can be – picture it and shake some action so it happens…

Well, after watching Sunday’s boat cruise and afterparty – the need to give this community more interesting events and to have more variety got me thinking. A few phone calls were made and we’ve entered into discussion with property owners to put on a different event – the need for liquor licenses, Council DA consents and a big spend in admin: applications and compliance paperwork will start – and in a few months we’ll have a really special event to present.

As promoters, we’re always looking at how to put on better events, we expect our deejays and producers to play and make better music. Personally, if I see our guys become complaicent and have the attitude that ‘oh well, these clubs are always full’ and they play the same old set – if we get wind of poor track selection, and technical incompetance – balls are broken.

This weekend we’ve got a run of parties on – Candys the usual underground indie electro on friday night, sat night more big house and electro tunes.. Whaat Club has some special events on this Friday – that I can’t really go into but anyone that walks into that club is going see a very nice crowd of party peeps and hear some sweet tunes (on Fridays the same Stamp gets you into Candys and Whaat  Club)… On Sat night Whaat club will be leaning more towards ol’ school r’n'b and party tunes… Oh, and at the Arthouse we’ve got:
